She's got a ticket to ri-ide!

At last! The visa's safely stuck in my passport (a mere snip at 120 quid and about 8 hours of my life) and the tickets have arrived. I leave the burgh of Edin on Thursday evening and will arrive in Port Harcourt at lunchtime on Friday, having stopped at Heathrow and Abuja International along the way...

All that's left to do now is... sorting, packing, panic, bit more sorting, arrange insurance, get hold of some cash to see me through the first few weeks, panic a little more, say lots of farewells, continue to pack, curse (because I've exceeded the HUGE baggage allowance that you get on flights to Nigeria), unpack, repack, curse again and then give up and go and consume my own weight in cheese and wine in preparation for going cold turkey. Phew. Seems so much more straightforward when I write it all down like that.

I'll be based in Port Harcourt for the first few weeks and then - all being well - will move to my chosen fieldsite in the neighbouring State of Akwa Ibom (see handy map below).

Right. Where's that suitcase.....?
